The Future (and past) of sewing jobs in the US.

When we think about the 'golden age' of America, we certainly don't think of Facebook or texting, but beyond the technological changes in the last 50 years there are also other kinds of change that affect our lives. Here's an interesting article from the NYTimes about the return of the garment industry to the US. Though rather than an epic return, this one is a bit sheepish. Companies (hopefully) seem regretful for dismantling a strong domestic manufacturing tradition for the sake of maximizing profits, output, and/or speed of production. Now, when they want to manufacture back home, the workforce no longer exists. An interesting read...
